Now & Next Counseling
I hear a lot of people say, “I can’t live like this anymore” or “Something’s gotta change.” For each person, their struggle is unique, and what they want help with varies. Maybe you need help coping with your parents or dealing with your kids. Maybe you want your anxiety or depression or bad thoughts to go away. Maybe you don’t like a situation you are stuck in or changes that are happening in your body. Maybe you want to figure out how to get through this crazy world as YOU - not as how someone else wants you to be.
I specialize in teenagers, young adults, anxiety (oh that anxiety!), women’s issues, transitions, health care, and end-of-life issues. I provide both individual and family counseling for teenagers and adults. My practice (Now and Next Counseling) is trauma-informed and trans-affirmative, and I am trained in mindfulness-based therapies and in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Though I work with people ages 12 and up with lots of different problems, I also have two areas of special interest to me: young people and their search for identity and sense of self; and dealing with a life-threatening diagnosis, especially when it comes earlier in life than it should (which might actually include all life-threatening diagnoses - because who is ever ready for that?).
I’m the kind of person who hates change, but keeps taking a deep breath and jumping into new things anyway. I don’t sit still much! I try to pay a lot of attention to the things that scare me so they don’t sneak up on me. I also know what it’s like to be anxious, and to go see a counselor, and another counselor, and another counselor. We all have hard times, and sometimes we need a hand. That’s why I became a social worker over 25 years ago.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New York State. I received my Bachelor Science in Social Work from Cornell University in 1992, and my Master of Social Work from SUNY Albany in 1998. I’ve been employed by the Advocacy Center, the Teen Pregnancy Parenting Program, Cornell Counseling Services, Valleyhead Residence for Girls (Massachusetts), and seven years with various hospice and and palliative care programs, including one that serves ill children and their families. In addition to my private practice, I currently provide counseling in two senior assisted living facilities. For 15 years I also owned Felicia’s Atomic Lounge and Felicia’s Atomic Brewhouse and Bakery.
Please note that Now and Next Counseling is not a good match for someone whose needs would be better met with substance abuse counseling or other such specialized mental health services.
